Overall description
Eyes like the sky is the improved continuation of my collage style of motion graphics and acts as a sibling to my previous project Change. This project takes a section of the King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard's song of the same name and visualizes it in all of it’s Spaghetti Western glory. Personally, this is one of my favorite projects I’ve made so far. This project contrasts the serene and grim nature of Change by it’s exciting and adventurous musical tones and visualization. This project, in hindsight, I felt was a campy, fun project that I believe I subconsciously created to combat the negative feelings going on in 2020.
Planning + Process
After being satisfied with the design direction I took in Change, I wanted to keep this style going. Collage motion graphics was a lot of fun and I felt like I almost “found” my style with this project. As with every project, I sketched out the storyboards and made styleframes for how I wanted this project to look for each scene. I took inspiration from collage motion graphic projects and cowboy films like “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.”  While I was working on the project, I needed to have some sort of visual noise or clips that would help me with making transitions and adding more of the distinct effects I use in many of my projects. Professor Shin provided me with stock film footage, such as film being burned, light leaks, static noise, and 1800’s film overlays which worked perfectly. Professor Shin also helped with mixing the audio by reducing its loudness. While I was working on this project, I was taking a visual effects cinematography class which inspired me to use myself as narrator at the beginning of the project. After making all of the assets for the project, animating took three days to do. Exhausted by the end of it, I was very satisfied with what I made.
